Bevy's Journal

Lee Ann usually participates in the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer.
The following picture is of the cheerleaders at the school
Lee Ann and Bevy attended together.
They both have grown families now and
remain as close as ever.

Bevy is one of the strongest women I know.
Lee Ann is on the extreme right and
Bevy is next to her.
The girls have kept their strong friendship
going for years

God bless you, Bevy..keep up the good work!

Lee Ann's letter:

Dear Friends and Family

The numbers are staggering.
Currently, there are three million women
living with breast cancer, and one third of them don't
even know it.

Even more startling, breast cancer kills approximately
40,000 women a year which equates to
one woman every 14 minutes.

This disease robs us of our mothers, grandmothers, sisters,
aunts and daughters. I am sure all of us have been touched
one way or another by this disease.

Several years ago, breast cancer became a terrible reality
for one of my best friends, Bevy Kerns.
At the age of 34, and a busy mom of three,
Bevy found herself facing the battle of her life.

After undergoing a mastectomy, chemotherapy, and radiation,
her struggle was far from over.

She has endured several recurrences,
and subsequent surgeries; however, through this entire ordeal
she has faced this disease
with unbelievable courage and dignity.

She has changed my entire outlook on life,
and with two sisters and three daughters of my own,
I feel compelled to do something that will help
bring us closer to finding a cure,
so that my daughters, their children and future
generations will no longer have to live
with the fear of this dreaded disease.

Bevy has been treated recently at Duke Cancer Center
in North Carolina.
She is doing well and is optimistic-that is Bevy!

I am thankful every day for my good health
and the opportunity for this challenge to make a difference.
So for each blister and muscle cramp, and for every time I thought
I can't possibly go any farther,
on this long, long walk
I remembered the small sacrifice I was making
on behalf of Bevy, and millions of women everywhere.

I think of those who have lost the battle
and those who fight fearlessly everyday,
and when I hit the road last May 1st,
to complete this walk, I remembered that you were a
special part of my journey, as well.

My Mom (Kacey) says I weigh 100 lbs. now, and
after this 2-day walk, I was the same--she's relieved!
