When you left this morning, without a care
harboring no thoughts of harm
you were on planes, in offices
and life seemed fine
no visible cause for alarm

What was on your mind as you began your day
~A day that would be your last
~a baby's mind--in blessed peace
~~an old woman's thoughts--on the past?

What was on the mind of pilots
~simply concentrate on flight?
No clue to what would soon transpire
or on their unbelievable, unthinkable plight?

What were flight attendants thinking
as they made their daily rounds~
Of what movie they might see tonight
When safely on the ground?

What were WE thinking~some of us tucked
inside our little world
~thinking everything but what would happen
as this horrible day unfurled.

In a building high above the city
thousands went about their way~
America's work force doing their jobs
starting off their day

A sudden sound so ominous
from a usual peaceful sky
~of speeding planes and burning flames
and soon the world would cry.

Some did live and some did die
and heroes everywhere
in disregard for their own lives
helped thousands out of there.

A gaping hole in monuments
that stood tall above the crowds.
"My God, where are you" our hearts cried
~our sobs agonizing and loud.

In planes monsters seized to destroy our hearts
heroes steered one plane to crash
~two others found their carefully planned marks--American symbols turned to ash

From flames and destruction and unbearable pain~
Souls were carried on Angels wings
in a glorious Kingdom they live again
where Heavenly choirs sing

America mourns now for all the dead
but our hearts united stand
~for we know that after all the hell
they're safe within God's hands.

one of the most despicable happenings man can imagine.
