WITH GRATITUDE

To the Armed Forces of the United States
The men and women brave
For those who came home to loved ones~~
and those who rest in graves.

To those who gave their lives
so that we could live in peace
~left heartbroken wives and newborn babies
~babies they'll never see.

For the sacrifices made
you have earned our love and respect
and if we sometimes made you
feel you were victims of neglect
~we want each one of you to know
our hearts were with you all the way
We didn't forget your service to us
and we didn't forget to pray

For agonizing moments of fear
with homesick and unashamed tears
among impossible conditions
-when the minutes must have seemed like years.

We pray God will keep our troops from harm
and soon for home you'll depart
But for you who gave your lives for us
~you're forever in our hearts.

God keeps you safe in Heaven now
~no enemies now to fear
and that beautiful flag of red, white and blue
Still waves proudly for you here.
