Tonight you sit before me In a wedding dress of white Your radiance shines as brightly As the stars we see tonight
In a moment, you'll walk down the aisle holding Daddy's arm The Dad who vowed when you were born to protect you from all harm
You are so very lovely as any bride could be We're thinking of the days gone by and a little girl we see
A little girl with a pony-tail grinning up at me

A tom-boy on a swing set hanging on the Monkey bars
laughing with her playmates
Could those days be so far? So far that now she's all grown up and leaving us for good ~~although we hated to admit it we knew someday she would

We try to hang on to the past but the past just disappears amid braces, crushes and high school friends and a fleeting of the years.
This beauty now before me will soon kiss us goodbye and the little girl in the mirror will be like the butterfly
The butterfly who flits around to beautify our day Like the bride who smiles so happily and waits to fly away from the arms of Dad to the arms of a man who waits now for his bride
to join him at the alter ~to be forever by his side

I'll cherish the memory of the childhood days
that ended much too soon
I'll cry a bit when I climb the stairs
and look into your room
I will imagine I hear the impish laughter and see the tossing of your curls Memories will sustain me
of our bright-eyed little girl Take our blessings with you as you meet him with a smile
and we'll be thankful you were ours
if only for awhile

The mirror image vanishes
was it only in my mind?
I want so much to keep you here
with the days you've left behind

Is this the little girl I carried?
Is this the little boy at play?
I don't remember growing older
When did they?
When did she get to be a beauty?
When did he grow to be this tall?
Wasn't it yesterday when they were small?
Sunrise, sunset~Sunrise, sunset
Swiftly flow the days
Seedlings turn overnight to sunflowers
Blossoming even as we gaze
Sunrise sunset~Sunrise, sunset
Swiftly fly the years
One season following another
Laden with happiness and tears
Now is the little boy a bridegroom
Now is the little girl a bride
Under the canopy I see them
side by side
Place the gold ring upon her finger
Share the sweet wine and break the glass
Soon the full circle will have come to pass
What words of wisdom can I give them?
How can I help to ease their way?
Now, they must learn from one another
Day by day
They look so natural together
Just like two newlyweds should be
Is there a canopy in store for me?
Sunrise, sunset~Sunrise, sunset
Swiftly flow the days

Blossoming even as we gaze
