Me And My Friend, Helen
My hair was dark and short and hers was blonde and long She was giggly and fun ~and I was quiet, not strong She was tough and stood her ground ~faced up to bullies too She was my friend, my special pal The best I ever knew
She'd lead me into mischief and I loved every single minute I followed her lead through thick and thin even if I sensed trouble in it!

We waded in creeks of clear blue water caught tadpoles and cooled our feet We'd sit beside the big old trees ~~and we brought along apples to eat
Her giggle was a pure delight She had no cares at all We had many wondrous adventures when she and I were small
We'd spend our nights together ~During summer, when there was no school We'd sneak into her kitchen ~get up on a stool ~and raid that cookie jar, we did ~ate cookies till we were stuffed With Helen's Mama's cookies I never got enough!

We were baptised together one Sunday and as we felt the water on our skin the giggles overtook us ~~not a good situation to be in!
We were grounded then for several days and it really broke our hearts to not see each other for so long ~to have to stay apart
Life has a way of changing things I guess we just grew apart but there wasn't a day that passed that she wasn't in my heart

She called one day, to my surprise I was too excited to think! We talked and talked of days of old (and shared a silent wink) about the day we got in real trouble by "raiding" our neighbors chickens ~With that memory so vivid in our minds We just laughed like the dickens!
The chickens ran and feathers flew!
We were hysterical with laughter No one knew who the culprits were till many years thereafter
The years have calmed us down and now my memories will suffice of Helen, my pal, my dearest friend So naughty, but oh so nice!
